Last meeting we discussed a few things amongst the Missoula members. (full attendance)

First thing we discussed was the possibility of having dues every month to help sponsor and support club meets/stickers/clothing etc.

Everyone decided that was fair and no one voiced any objections, and it was decided that 10 dollars due at the first Monday meeting every month was fair and nobody voiced any objections.

Because of this ^ its my belief that the club should appoint a few officers for certain tasks. That brings me to my next point.

Officers.

As every club should have, we should put some serious thought into a Club president, club secretary, and club treasurer, and maybe a club vp to fill in when club president is absent.

i believe this should be decided prior to our next official meeting, so these people can at least fill into their tasks at the meeting, it can be changed later.

President should be someone who is willing to lead meetings, make sure the word is put out that meets etc are coming up, and make club decisions when a club vote cannot be taken.
I'm nominating James as president, since he has mostly stepped into that roll already.

As far secretary, we need somebody who has shown good meet attendance, and plans on attending a very large portion of the 1st Wednesday meetings, and has reliable computer access. For typing minutes etc.

Treasurer must be able to keep a ledger, attendance is not so important for this person as honesty. Must also be a person who is not very big, so i can knock the shit out of them if they steal.

V.P. should be somebody who knows whats going on as well as the president and can make decisions based on the good of the club, who can help the president make decisions and can make them in the case of the absence of the president, must not be family with the president for obvious reasons.

Please feel free to nominate those of who think fit those criteria.

My next point:
We talked briefly about what we want to do this summer as a club, and for a club meet. A few things were brought up, and unfortunately I wasn't as prepared to be the stand in secretary as i wanted to be, and didn't grab a notebook to write things down, so feel free to remind me if i missed something.

A few things we talked about are as followed.
Club wide GTG and cruise (all of nwgme) hosted by the Big Sky Region in Zoo.
it was noted that this should be based around a car show or other automobile event in the summer
Big sky (or all of nwgme) goes to Coeur d' Alene for a weekend, activities could include a day at the beach, silver wood, water park, triple play go karts, car show etc.
Big sky region mobs western WA for a weekend and poops in robs pool (yes i think this was actually brought up) and visits the rest of the members or forces rob to actually host a GTG at his house/area.

if anyone remembers anything else, please post up.

Also, I think it would be a good idea if we got some information from everyone, especially new members (yay we had a new member this month!) just for club use and to know where to send mass emails and any physical mailing that should be done. I have composed a sample application for review. It would be great if new members and existing members could fill this out so we look more like a club than a bunch of idiots with computers and cars. It will follow.

Thanks everyone for coming this month, great turnout, and I hope we can meet up again on the first with as good as luck as the last.

Why you upgrade brakes on any car.

Wanted to keep discussing this here, because well, its an interesting subject and honestly there are perfectly legitimate reasons to upgrade brakes on even a light race use car or even daily driver. And I didn't want to keep derailing robz silly lil blazer thread.

(01-30-2012 05:52 AM)Tater Wrote: Why upgrade james, I could upgrade my pads and calipers and leave standard rotors on, making more surface area for more friction, for more braking power. But then again,my vette will skid all four tires at any speed im sure of it, so why waiste the money, the brakes are far more than adequate.

Ill give it to you that my cavalier is the only car ive ever experienced brake fade on, but you were with me that night and im pretty sure what we were doing is very far out of the realm of daily driving, unless you have babies a lot and live far from town or other reasons to hit the ER, then again, if I could do it again, we would have been in the vette, going 170+ and dead somewhere between here and lincoln, well, the incident probably wouldnt have happened in the vette either

On the other hand, it makes for a great story

Indeed an epic tale, and we would of been home in half the time or less, sans arm-b-q if you'd of had the vette, at the time lol.

I agree 100% stock J brakes suck just like Keepers stock brakes did, and we get enough road grade and wet conditions here in MT alone to justify it based on that too, thanks keeper forgot about all that, lol.

-Now my rambling about brakes-
(Remember im no scientist so my terms and such may be wrong in some cases, but the theory is the same regardless of my semi-illiterate ass.)

Brakes don't work purely by using pad on rotor friction to slow the wheel, well they do but that is only a part percentage of why they slow your car. Brakes also work by shedding kinetic energy. How, the rotational energy in the wheel is transfer-ed to the rotor hat as its the smallest diameter of the wheel/ brake assembly and the coolest at first (when its not being used to brake, obviously). When you apply the brake it pushes the pad into said rotor, partially absorbing and dissipating the kinetic energy into the pad where it dissipates.

Pads that are made of carbon (like my hawk pads) instead of metal pulp adsorb and dissipate heat way better, loads better. Stopping you faster, taking longer to overheat and create brake fade, And faster more efficient stopping equals safer driving for the daily use guys too, especially if your following some guy in a vette or cavy that locks all fours up every once in awhile, lol, were terrible.

Where the slotted rotor comes into play is the slot lines literally create channels of colder spots that the heat then tries to rush into and flow out of the rotor face and into the edge of the rotor and the internal vanes that is not touching the pad, helping keep the pad cooler longer, helping you stop faster, reducing brake fade, that is a very small part of it though.

*A side note most people lose 20% of their braking power by not putting their "fancy new rotors" on the right way, they think its about the direction of the slots on the front, but most rotors internal veins need pointed so they take in air not push it out. Some are stright out and then it don't matter, ie, stock crap.

The big advantage in the slots is to break up "rotor gas" I was referring earlier, rotor gas is a heated mixture of particles that are made up of small molecules from the rotor and pad, dust form the road, and heat, this is what becomes brake dust. This "gas" makes heat and kinetic energy transfer much harder as the gas promotes heat spreading back into the rotor and blocking new energy from escaping. This rotor gas is broken down or "beaten off" the pad and rotor by the slots in the slotted rotor speeding up energy transfer and reducing brake fade. Stopping you faster.

Now T8r is right, you don't "need" them unless you race at least some of the time, or stop very late (like my fiance, lol) I won't argue that, but as per T8R's story imagine how much longer it would of taken my better brake setup on my car with way better pads, rotors, and full syn higher boiling point fluid to break down into fade like his stock junk did. Add some stainless lines for better fluid pressure holding and that's about as good as it gets for a stock setup. Not all of us have stock vette front brakes with beefy calipers and big old rotors, or monster aftermarkets like robs sunfire. So we take whatever little help we can get, on a budget, that and most good aftermarket brake pads/ rotors are made of better materials and last longer than crapa or stock pads, most, not all, when setup right, pick the right pad for your use, I usually use semi street pads, like hawk HPS, they last longer, brake better, but arent full race pads that will eat rotors. Some are more race use only and brake down faster, know what ur buying.

So could you leave your vettes brakes alone, yes, but if you decide to up the anti on it, up the ain't on your brakes too, more power/speed equals less topping distance, combat that with new better brakes.

TO sum my rambling up...

Is any brake upgrade on a stock car neccessary, no, is it helpful, and fun, and a better value, kind of.... yes and no....

Big brake upgrades are the best, big ole rotors, big calipers, multiple pistons, aggressive design, purdy behind big ole wheels, yeah its awesome, its expensive too boot, especially on a budget build or light duty car.

A simple synthetic, brake fluid change, some slotted and/ or cross drilled (my opinion of cross drilled depends on rotor brand, cheap ones brake down faster or crack), some street/ race pads (again know your brand and what duty they are designed for and useage length), some stainless braided lines, and you've got a decent upgrade to a stock brake system, that will help you stop faster and more efficiently while driving around town or mobbing an high altitude pass brakes banging. And it won't brake your bank, if you do the research, and know what your getting for your money.

The other option to spend a lot less and improve your stock cars braking, is if you have rear drums, swap on some rear discs, most cars with rear drums stop horribly and have "ass wiggle" when braking throwing off your sweet line through the mountains, by creating too much underersteer, and in general helping brake fade hit fast and hard because the fronts do most of the work. Again if you choose to upgrade shop smartly and do your research.

Any truck guys might consider all options highly, most stock brake systems are usually way under designed and aren't helpful with heavy loads, or trucks that are way upgraded in the engine bay.

Okay I'm done now. Discuss, prove me wrong, or try, but race engineers/ drivers designed these systems to stop faster, they have all been proven to work, its all about how much you can or are willing to spend at the time. Or if you are gonna at some point upgrade the horse power level in your ride. If you go faster, for god sakes, make your brakes better so you can stop faster too.

Holly got rear ended to the tune of 800 bones or more in a fat check for us, the car has no major damage that needs fixed so, all that money goes into the future Ravenfire account, that and paying the blucavy off this x-mas means more fundage for motorz funz.

So... Looking to pickup a good running LD9 to swap into Holly's Ravenfire once this ticking time bomb of a J-rod special engine has put out its last oomph.. there is no major hurry as the engine in the car now runs fine but it has 110k on it and it was maintained not as good as it should be (nicest way to put it). And proper maintenance now and seafoam only go so far... lol....

So a replacement stock engine is in order in the future to keep the car drive-able until such time as a re-built (forged ftw) engine can be finished for it.

I'm putting this here so you guys can keep an eye out for me, I try to be everywhere online, but the pornz draw me astray, lol.
If you see anything with under 100k let me know, or throw the link up here.

Thanks peeps.
